This area was first designated as Coralville Heights in 1922 in order to show that it was not in the flood plain of the Iowa River, which is on Coralville's eastern border. The name Coralville "Heights' intimated that the lots were above the areas that were flood prone. It worked! People began buying lots and building homes in 1923, and Coralville Heights was all the rage! "They live in the Heights" or "we live in the Heights" became a rather "hoity toity" observation.

Fancy homes? No. Big lots? No. Just good old lots on city streets in modest sizes. Most lots from 5th Avenue to 14th Avenue are anywhere from 60' x 110' to maybe 60'x120 or 125'. Average homes are most predominant, with some duplex stock.

There are some nice craftsman style homes on 4th to 9th Avenues, with houses on 10th to 14th being post-WWII almost exclusively. Older homes now in most cases and still some one owner homes are around! Close to two elementary schools and one junior high, the home of Coralville City Hall, Fire Station #1, Coralville Public Library, and S.T. Morrison Park with a huge outdoor water park, Coralville Rec Center with indoor pool, and small businesses and shops. The area is served totally by Coralville City Bus.

This is a nice area to find a home and live! Easy access to UI and UIHC via car, bike, shoe leather, city bus, etc. Homes range: $ 125,000 to $250,000 for the most part.
