The Palmer family of Iowa lost their baby, Knox, after he fell asleep at a day care and did not wake up. His family has decided to keep his memory alive by creating a donation program that helps to place special baby monitors, known as Owlet Smart Sock, in daycare facilities throughout Iowa. The socks monitor heart rates and oxygen levels of the babies. An alarm goes off when the rates are too low. The alarm hopefully gives the caregiver time to assist the baby or get the baby the necessary medical care needed.

Mark and Elisha Palmer have a goal of getting owlets to every day care across the state. All of the owlets are donated and there are fundraisers to help assist with this program. You can obtain more information about the fundraisers and the owlets by contacting greenglowproject@gmail.com.

Many of the local shelter houses are offering additional and extended services to the homeless during this record freeze. People have donated extra blankets and supplies to help those that are in need. They are still in need of donations for gloves, thermal underwear and unperishable food that they can provide its guests. Law enforcement is assisting by looking out for homeless and bringing them to the shelters.

The Fareway Grocery Store on San Marnan has a new look! It's very nice with a gray background and red lettering using a straight forward font. Very simple. The old look was a bright yellow with red lettering and outlines on a logo. The canopy to the store was also yellow with red. The new look is some much better in my opinion. Way to go Fareway! Always a great place to buy wonderful meat and affordable groceries.

Today we are having record subzero temperatures! The low today here is going to be -25 degrees with a wind chill of -55 degrees. This is cold! Schools and many business are closed today. Even the Postal Service is closed! I'm hoping people take care to make sure their pipes don't freeze and they stay home where it is hopefully warm.
