    The Bondurant Freedom Rock is located outside of the Bondurant Legion Hall. It was created by artist, Ray "Bubba" Sorensen and aims to thank our veterans in all 99 counties in the state of Iowa. The theme is "Honoring Iowa's Fallen." The front side features a battle cross along with service members from different eras carrying a flag-draped casket to symbolize those lives lost. The backside resembles the Iowa flag and includes a ribbon with all five branches of the military.

The lake is open from 6:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Throughout the years, several improvements have been added to the lake including a trail, shelters, and a playground.     The Depot was built in 2013 and features a 1,440 square foot open-air shelter with restrooms and water bottle fill stations. It is a replica of the original train station in Bondurant that served train passengers from 1883 to 1962. The Trailhead is a staple of the Eastern Polk County trail system and Chichaqua Valley Trail. It sits on the historic Chicago Great Western rail line, which operated from 1883 to 2005.

    If you reside in the city limits of Bondurant, mark Saturday, June 27, 2020 on your calendar. One day only the city will host "Chunk Your Junk". Residents will be able to dispose of tire, yard, and solid waste free of charge. Tire and yard waste can be dropped off at the Public Works Building located at 306 1st St NW. Solid waste will be picked up curbside. Place your junk items at your curb the night before pickup. Trucks will be by on the 27th to dispose of your items. Solid waste is defined by Metro Waste Authority as residential household items that are not picked up on normal collection days. There are restrictions and limitations on the amount and items disposed of. Please refer to the City of Bondurant website for further information.

    Hard to miss all the hype about a 645,000 square foot building being built in Bondurant. Earlier this year Amazon confirmed they are constructing the fulfillment center and hope to have it operational by the end of 2020. The original prediction was that this Amazon location will create as many as 1,000 new full time jobs. Welcome news, especially for those finding themselves out of work due to the Coronavirus Pandemic. Currently Amazon has job postings and hiring for both the Grimes and Des Moines locations.

    Finally the mystery is over regarding the development of land in Bondurant. Speculation was Amazon was coming to town. That rumor was confirmed with a press release on February 6th. Amazon is building a 645,000 square foot fulfillment center in Southeast Bondurant. It is expected to bring 1,000 jobs with it. It will be interesting to see how Bondurant grows. Several housing projects are being worked out to accommodate the anticipated influx of residents. The facility is expected to begin production fall 2020.
