Norm's Pub, located at the corner of 6th and Walnut in Waukee, Iowa, is not your average neighborhood bar. In addition to its friendly atmosphere and extremely cold beer selection, Norm's Pub offers some unique features that set it apart from other local bars.

For one, Norm's Pub has its very own pickleball court, providing a fun and active way to spend time with friends and family. Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong, and it's become increasingly popular in recent years. Whether you're looking to play some pickleball, enjoy a pub pizza and a beer, or catch the game on TV, Norm's Pub has everything you need for a fun and memorable night out. So come on down to 6th and Walnut and experience all that this unique neighborhood bar has to offer.

My kids attended Grant Ragan Elementary and Fox Creek Park next to it allowed us to have a great walking path to school, or for family walks in the evening. My toddler loves to stop by the Little Library while his siblings are playing soccer on the field. And they all enjoy the splash pad during summer break! Pickleball and a tennis court are also there to utilize. It is the third biggest park in Waukee and we enjoy it all year long!

You can enjoy the beautiful trails that connect Waukee to other trails and ride, run, or walk as far as you choose. Many of the trails are along creeks and offer a break from the sun as you meander through nature. You'll find that there are parks along trails every couple of miles. Stop and take a break, or make a park a destination for the kids to explore. Check out the link to find the trails and parks near you! The Waukee Trailhead is a popular spot for people to meet and head out on their bikes. Popular out-and-back destinations are Dallas Center, Minburn to the north, and Adel, Redfield (they have a great breakfast at the VFW on Saturday mornings) to the west. You can do the full loop and get in 75-100 miles depending on your fitness. See you out there!

Things have really changed since I graduated from Waukee with a class of 77 people. University was a gravel road, and you could ride your bike on Hickman, Hwy 6, to Adel to go swimming. One thing that hasn't changed, Alice's Road. From just east of the high school, on the now paved four-lane called SE University Ave, you turn north at the stoplight where the sign reads SE Alice's Road. There was a debate about changing the name of Alice's Road, but the uproar from the longtime Waukee residents wouldn't have it. Why?

Alice's Spaghetti Land had been a fixture of Waukee since Alice Nezzi opened the restaurant in 1949 as a Mom and Pop Italian restaurant on the dirt road in the barren northeast side of Waukee. Alice's family immigrated here to work in the Shuler mine. They employed many of the women of the coal mining community and many from town, including my mom. Alice worked at the restaurant into her 80's. Her nephew, Jim Nizzi, took over most of the operations in the '90s and continued until it closed in 2004. Jim still prepares the special recipes for special occasions like the Waukee Historical Society's Annual Alice's Night.

What's in a name? In this instance, it's the local history of a woman and her family that served the families of the Shuler mine area and grew into a local favorite for the Waukee area.

I have called Waukee home for 30 years now and have been selling real estate here for the past 27 years. In that time I have seen a lot of significant changes. Always keeping up with the growth, Waukee has continued to be a sought-after place to live and raise a family. Although the growth continues to make the news, you can still find a piece of that small-town feel, especially when visiting our downtown "triangle" area.

As an agent and a mom who raised two boys in Waukee, I would recommend you find out everything Waukee has to offer if you are thinking of calling this place your home. If you are a current resident of Waukee and are thinking of buying/selling to take advantage of these seriously low-interest rates, please have a REALTOR that is very well-versed in Waukee and all it has to offer. Someone who is knowledgeable of the continued growth. In Iowa, home is everything. Our family, our history, our hopes, and now more than ever, our health.

Kettlestone will have a trail that connects to the existing trails making bicycling a wonderful outdoor activity to be enjoyed by many. It will also have areas that are designated to conservation. Definitely a desirable neighborhood for any potential resident of Waukee.

Waukee is one of my favorite communities not only to live in, but explore and discover new activities and places to bring my family. Ranked number one as the state's fastest growing city, Waukee is doing a great job of keeping up with the times and making sure it's residents have things to do, places to go, and homes to live in. "Waukee is primed for the future," said Waukee Mayor Bill Peard. "Waukee is a pretty special place. We are offering a lot of opportunities for additional people to come live in, do business with and visit our city." In addition to Waukee's current amenities, Kettlestone, is going to be an incredible asset to the city and its residents. Kettlestone will offer entertainment, outdoor activities, live events, restaurants, and retail shops on it's over 1200 acres of landscape. In addition to the excitement and value Kettlestone will bring, it will also bring thousands of employment opportunities to Waukee and its neighboring cities. Without a doubt Waukee is, and will continue to be, an amazing place to live.
