We used to walk through Wilderness Ridge hoping someday we too could live here. Now we do! We purchased our home in Wilderness Ridge in 2009. Actually, we have loved living here so much we decided to sell our home and build another home in this area while there were still a couple lots left! While we are reluctant to give up an incredible view, we're very excited to be able to stay in the area and still build exactly what our family needs for the future. There are lots of walkers, joggers and dog people that are always bouncing down these streets, even this time of year.

Hole #14 is partially ( I believe ) considered the feature hole as it is viewed from the intersection of 27th Street and Yankee Hill Road. The waterfall and water feature is quite prominent at this busy intersection in Southwest Lincoln although not in view really from the course when playing the hole. The feature hole is a long par 5 and very difficult to reach in two. (Unlike hole #6 where water is not in play on your 2nd shot to the green. Your drive is part of the equation, but you're also going to need a good south breeze and a lot of nerve for a second shot to the green. This hole is not only surrounded by water, but has a significant down hill slope on the back side of the green, so long is gone! And when you are coming in with a rescue club or 3 wood sometimes short is gone, too, it is hard to stop anything other then a short iron on this green. A carefully placed third shot with a short iron is probably your best bet on this hole. I made my eagle on this hole, but waited till the water was frozen to lower my risk, and when the ground is frozen the ball rolls farther :)

Depending on the tee placement, this hole in Wilderness Ridge should be 165-190 from the Brown Tee, but it is up hill and frequently playing in to a south breeze (25-30 MPH) so it changes dramatically from day to day. The lower part of the green is not too undulating and the hole plays a lot easier with this pin placement. However they put the pin back on a regular basis and this is not only a tough shot off the Tee but hard to chip to this thin shelf. While the slope is not dramatic it is there and chipping from off the green in back is really sporty, as it is very easy to roll to the edge and subsequently 35' down a fast green all the way to the front edge. Some very creative putting may be in the cards for you on this hole depending on that tee shot.

While it is about 270 or so to the front edge of the water on this hole, it is down hill and frequently enjoying a south breeze. You don't have to be a bomber with the driver to get this in the water, I have seen many a drive get wet. As a matter of fact if you do hit a pretty strong drive and there is a good south breeze you may want to try to drive the green. The card says 352 yds. ( from the Brown Tee's) but that is to the center and it is a big green so if you hit the ball 280 or 290 and you have a south breeze you will carry the water, and could be on the front edge. Some big sand traps left and right but usually hitting a short Iron in it's fine (remember I said it is a big green). However getting on the green in two is not the hard part here, it is not 3-putting. The green has a lot of undulation and when they are rolling fast you don't want to be above the hole if the pin is towards the front. This hole plays a lot easier if the pin is back as often times it is in the bottom of a swale and easier to get close. These are the opinions of just one golfer (and not a very good one at that :)

A temptation for the Bombers off the Tee, but the payback for a long great drive down the middle may not be a good result. The green on this hole has a fair amount of undulation and this green like many others can be tough when rolling at its top speed. A long drive down the middle ends up getting you so close it is difficult to put enough spin on the ball to hold the green. After playing a four man scramble with a 55 yd shot to the green, none of us could get anything to hold on the slopey green. We surmised we would have been better off playing the 100 yard shot from the fairway we had, but of course hind sight is 20/20. It is a fun hole with a fair amount of hazards for the novice, with water on the left edge of fairway and houses and OB on the right. Another couple reasons to leave the driver in the bag for this one.

The view of this hole is mixed with both the beauty of this hole and the many hazards it brings to your game. With sand traps lining the left edge of the fairway and water on the right, it brings a challenging tee shot for the player with a fade or slice. This hole runs east to west, so with a little south breeze ( like 20 to 30 mph ) you are aiming right at the traps left and hoping the wind doesn't die down or God forbid you hit the ball straight. Plenty of days you should probably just hit two irons and a short iron in, but you don't come out here to lay up. This is a beautiful golf hole in every way as long as the wind doesn't blow your tee shot in the lake, and cause you to finish with a double.

Hole # 2's hazards are not as daunting (for the 12 handicap player, I might add) as some of the holes. The green is where you rack up the strokes, with it's combination of speed, undulation and pin placement. Often placed near a cusp towards the left side of the green, it offers the opportunity to 3 or 4. I have missed a 3 foot putt and found myself with a 20 foot putt coming back more then once. When they have these greens rolling, they provide a challenge many are not use to, but a glimpse of how the big boys play on fast greens.

Whenever I have golfing friends or family members visiting Lincoln, Wilderness Ridge is always one of the courses they we play. With over a dozen golf courses in the area to choose from, this is always one they want to play. My wife and I took pictures of the entire course two summers ago and created a calendar for all the members and people who live in the neighborhood, so we have many great shots to share of the course. Wilderness has one of the highest Slope and Ratings of any course in the area, so the Championship Course offers some very challenging play. It has bent grass fairways and very fast greens, so regardless of the tee box you play from it still is a challenging course.
