Bagge Strawberries is located five miles north of Independence, Iowa. You are able to head out to the farm to buy already-picked strawberries, or you are able to go out in the field yourself and select your very own strawberries. Talk about an awesome day trip with your kiddos!

Located just off of Highway 150, Three Elm's is a great course, perfect for the novice golfer or for those more experienced. You'll be sure to be challenged with the water feature on Hole 6. Stop by the clubhouse before or after your round and enjoy a cold beverage!

Do you love ice fishing? This is the event for you! Heartland Acres in Independence is hosting an ice fishing derby to be held on Sunday, February 11 from 9:00 a.m. - noon. Included is a delicious brunch that will be provided by the Independence Lions Club which will be held from 8:00 a.m. - noon. My family and I enjoy movies and the Starlight Cinema in Independence is one of the best in the area to catch a flick. They offer two stylish auditoriums and offer some of he hottest movies currently out. Tickets are just $5 for all movies with the exception of Friday and Saturday evenings, priced at $7 per ticket. Great variety of offerings at the concession stand and great location, just off of Highway 20.

Bagge Strawberries is just five miles north of Independence on Highway 150. This family owned and operated farm, started as a hobby but quickly grew to a 26-acre farm fresh local business! The farm offers the option of fresh picked or pick your own; both are worth the trip!

The picking experience is inviting for "pickers" of all ages. The farm hands will cart you to a row and give you easy to follow "picking' instructions. No limits here; pick as little or as much as you want and/or need. Most seasons berries ripen throughout the month of June. Bagge's plants several different strawberry varieties allowing for a longer season than you might produce at home.

Bonus for berry lovers. Bagge's also grow red raspberries, which I've been told will ripen in July. I guess I will be making a return trip once or twice!

Baby, It's cold outside! Falcon Civic Center and River's Edge are valuable assets to the Independence community and offer a wide variety of indoor activities for you and your family to enjoy year round. Falcon Civic Center offers racquetball courts, weights and cardio equipment, gymnasium with six hoops, pool and Foosball tables. River's Edge houses five indoor batting cages with optional pitching machines, golf cage and simulators, bags court, shuffleboard court and a hunting simulator. The Independence Public Library will feature the photography of 2009 Independence Alum Mercedes Johnson. Her work will be exhibited in the Community Room Friday, February 12th 2:00-5:00 p.m., Saturday, February 13th 10:00-4:00 p.m. and Sunday, February 14th 1:00-3:00 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

Enjoy Chili and Beef Stew on a cold winter's night at the Independence Fire Department's annual Soup Supper on Tuesday, February 16th, from 5-7 p.m. Free will donation. All proceeds help the fire department purchase new equipment.

The Independence Area Chamber of Commerce is presenting an evening of music, dancing, refreshments and memories to cherish a lifetime. Grab your dad, step-dad, uncle, grandpa or other special someone for a fun night. Photographs will be available to purchase throughout the night. Visit the Independence Winter Farmers Market held indoors at The Wapsie Clam in downtown Independence on Thursday, February 11th, 5:00-7:00 p.m. Shop local and fresh! Purchase locally made baked goods, candies, jellies and jams, winter produce and so much more.

Independence Motor Speedway offers family friendly entertainment! This exciting 3/8 mile oval dirt track features five stock car classes (Late Models, Modified, Sports Mods, Stock Cars and Hobby Stock) racing Saturday Nights from mid-April through late August.

The track is located at the Buchanan County fairgrounds. Ample bleacher seating and a wide variety of concessions and beverage options for the whole family! Gates open at 4:30 p.m. with hot laps at 6:30 and races to follow. Come early and watch the cars roll into the pits, see the crews unload the cars and test the track. Track announcers walk through the grandstands, entertaining spectators with prizes, trivia and information on the nightly schedule. Tickets can be purchased at the gate: Adults $12, Students and seniors $10, and Children 11 and under are always free!
