After a while it becomes really difficult to stay indoors. A little sun and warm weather can do everybody good. The key today is to get that fresh air while staying safe and social distancing. Now that the weather is finally getting warmer it is a great time to get outdoors. Here are a few ideas on what you can do to breathe some fresh air and stay safe.Use your backyard. You can spend as much time as you want outside without running the risk of being around others. Pitch a tent and have a staycation. Get the family involved. Tell stories, eat S'mores, and throw a frisbee around.Walking/biking trails are still open, use them. Perhaps consider driving to a more remote spot so there is not as much activity on the trail. Pack a picnic basket for a stop along the way to enjoy the sunshine. Just try to maintain a 6' distance if you do run into someone else enjoying the outdoors.Look up. The stars are not going anywhere. Take a family field trip at night to stargaze and see which constellations you can spot. Play a game in the driveway. Think back to the games you played as a kid and teach them. They just might find something they enjoy playing. Try creating a hopscotch or four-square grid, use the basketball hoop for a game of horse, Red Rover, try ring-around-the-Rosie/duck duck grey goose with small kids, or set up an obstacle course with each member of the family choosing their own obstacle.Overdue landscaping is the perfect activity now that the weather is warmer. Have a contest between the kids to see who can pull the most weeds, prep your garden, and let the kids decide where everything will be planted, powerwash the deck, or trim bushes/trees. Learn a new skill by teaching kids how to start a fire, tie a knot, or start a compost bin. There is no shortage of activities you can do outside, many of them you don't even need to leave home. Get creative, take a deep breath, stay safe, and try to enjoy this downtime the best you can.
