    Sips and Songs is a summer concert series held in Ankeny, Iowa, at the District at Prairie Trail. The concerts are organized by the Ankeny Area Chamber of Commerce and feature local musicians playing a variety of genres, from rock and blues to country and pop. The series typically runs from June through August, with concerts held in the Town Center. The venue's outdoor setting, great acoustics, and selection of food and drink from restaurants also in the District make it a unique experience that's not to be missed. The concerts are a great opportunity to meet and connect with other people in the community, and the venue's relaxed atmosphere and friendly crowd make it easy to strike up a conversation with your neighbors and make new friends.     Middle Park Construction Is Underway
    On the east side of the district in Prairie Trail is a new park located between the elementary, middle, and high school in the Heritage Plat. It's called Middle Park, and it will be a multi-use park that kids will thrive in. Over half of the park will be kept in a natural state, complete with tall grasses, small retention ponds, insects and critters, and hours of exploration. The north section will include two play areas, one for smaller kids and the other for bigger ones. There will be a restroom building and parking as well. It's inclusive too, so all kids have the chance to do what they do best...play! Another awesome feature of this park is the half-mile walking trail around it. It draws young and old alike to stretch their legs and get some fresh air while enjoying this green space. Completion is set for 2023.

    Considered a town within a town Prairie Trail offers a unique lifestyle. The concept of this development was to get families back on their front porches, less emphasis on the garage access, and provide community greenspace where families could interact with each other. The District at Prairie Trail was developed to provide those families convenience and walkability to shopping, restaurants, and entertainment. This provides an urban feel to otherwise a very suburban city. Certainly, if you are looking for a large yard or acreage for kids and dogs to run Prairie Trail might not be for you. The yards tend to be on the smaller side but the community offers several parks and green spaces for kids to play within the neighborhood. Cascade Water Park is also built into the center of this community for all Ankeny residents to utilize and two elementary schools are within walking distance. If you have always liked the thought of urban living but want a great community to raise your family Prairie Trail is worth looking into.

    New Community Library Underway
    Super exciting to see the construction progress of the new Ankeny Kirkendall Public Library! The new two-story library will be located in the Prairie Trail Business District at 1250 SW District Dr. It will have 55,000 square feet of space, doubling the size of the current library. Some of the key features include 14 study/conference rooms, a drive-up book drop, automated material handler to process items quickly, areas of individual and small group seating as well as dedicated spaces for children and teens, and seating availability for 300 people in a large meeting room that can be divided for smaller groups. There will also be several meeting spaces available for rent to the public. This is a much needed upgrade to our current library and will be a gorgeous space in the heart of Prairie Trail. Can't wait to see it all completed.
