A new restaurant has just opened up on the edge of downtown Waterloo. The Blue Iguana is located on the main floor of the Courtyard by Marriott hotel at 250 Westfield Ave. The menu was created by Mexico City native Juan Hernandez and is based on his mother’s recipes. The food is said to be 90% authentic while infusing new cuisine and new Mexican food. The Blue Iguana’s menu is made from scratch and is affordable, and the bar has an extensive wine list and 40 taps with mostly Iowa and local craft beer.

Mark Zanotti founded Zanotti Armor some 30 years ago but about a year ago, Zanotti sold his company to two successful Cedar Valley businessmen, Mike Kuebler and Skeet Miehe. These two new owners have located the business to downtown Waterloo and are in the process of expanding the business and the product offerings in the near future. This company currently makes unique gun safes that are sold around the world to avid gun collectors, law enforcement, and even the United States Military. What makes these safes unique is that they are modular in nature and can be assembled where the customer desires. This also makes it easy for the customer to disassemble the safe and take it with them if they move.

Rodney’s Kitchen is a great addition to downtown Waterloo. His restaurant is a mix of American grill, soul food, and Mediterranean dishes. I especially love the super juicy steak philly! Not only does he serve great food to his customers, but he also offers free lunches for local kids in need. You need to check this place out for yourself; it is located at 624 Sycamore St, Waterloo.

Every Thursday is Bike Night at the Screaming Eagle restaurant in downtown Waterloo. Bikers gather for food, fun, music, and to offer support to the safety of motorcycles. I've been there many times and enjoy the crowd and the cause. You don't have to have a motorcycle to be a part of this event. Sometimes I even ride my bicycle or drive the car.

A favorite downtown Waterloo meeting place has taken to heart the phrase "If these walls could talk". A historical depiction of iconic Waterloo moments and places covers the walls of On the Rocks located at 708 Jefferson Street. The owner, Patrick Plumley, is hoping to bring life, color and positivity to Waterloo.

Plumley teamed up with friend Mike Marshall to cover the blank walls of this renovated downtown building - hoping to depict a historical catalog of Waterloo with a modern element! The artist has invested 200+ hours to this masterpiece - showcasing the 4th Street Bridge, the Five Sullivan Brothers Convention Center, The Brown Derby Ballroom, the railroad and Lincoln Park and the iconic Starlite Drive-in Theatre. Woven through each mural are current day depictions as well - including the Irish Fest and more!
This bar owner and artist are allowing these walls to speak. Oh the stories they and business patrons can tell! This is a must see hot spot in downtown Waterloo!

Harold's Chicken #28 moved to Downtown Waterloo in the spring of 2017! The rich history of this Chicago based southern favorite found its way to the Cedar Valley! The casual dining restaurant can be found near the Walnut Court neighborhood, just across from Lincoln Park.

Personally I like fried chicken; always have, probably always will. Locally we have a few national chain options such as Kentucky Fried Chicken, Popeye's, and Chick-Fil-A, but nothing can compare to the fried chicken you will be served at Harold's! Thick and juicy meat, perfectly seasoned and fried perfectly; light and crispy.

They have a unique menu. Of course there are the traditional chicken dinner varieties, but in addition there a few hard to find in the Cedar Valley Southern favorite sides! Harold's offers fried green tomatoes, okra and gizzards! Everything is made fresh and served with by local friendly staff. This is an add to your restaurant wish list!
