    RAGBRAI is coming to Waterloo! The riders will be making the 67.9 mile journey from Iowa Falls to Waterloo on Wednesday, July 28th and will be on their way to Anamosa on Thursday. You may have to alter your driving route a little today and tomorrow to allow the cyclists to safely arrive and depart the city, but having so many people come to the area is great for local businesses! There will be a lot of activities for just the riders, but live music, food trucks, and local restaurants will be open to the public as well. RAGBRAI is one great big community party, so head down to downtown Waterloo tonight to join the fun!

    Cappella Magna, formerly known as Galleria de Paco, is an extremely popular and unique restaurant destination. Located in downtown Waterloo at 622 Commercial St, Cappella Magna hosts fine dining events for anniversaries, weddings, or office parties. The Cappella Magna features a replica of the Sistine Chapel created by Paco using only aerosol spray cans. To say it is beautiful is not enough and must be seen in person to appreciate it. And the food and service are absolutely incredible.

    The Northeast Iowa Food Bank distributes food and grocery products to numerous area nonprofit organizations and programs that help families and individuals with food assistance, serving 16 counties in northeast Iowa.     Don't miss this year's Food Truck Festival in downtown Waterloo. This yummy event features a large variety of tasty options from vendors traveling here from all over the state.     If you're looking for an enjoyable and educational experience, look no further than the John Deere Tractor & Engine Museum. Just west of downtown Waterloo, this museum is free for all visitors. Waterloo and Cedar Falls are home to many John Deere employees, so I enjoyed walking through and learning all about this company that has had a big part in the making of our community. And this museum is interactive with exhibits and activities to help you have a full learning experience. My kids really enjoyed sitting inside the large tractor which makes for a great photo op. This place is truly a treat for all ages.

    The Waterloo Convention Center at Five Sullivan Plaza is nearing its remodel and looks amazing. I recently attended an event at the convention center and they have done a really good job with updated lighting, paint colors, lighting, and bathrooms. They have removed the escalators and are currently working on the exterior. It is really going to be a sight when it is completed.

    Unfortunately, most social events were canceled during 2020, including the Iowa Irish Fest. This summer, you can once again celebrate the wonderful Irish culture as the festival is back for 2021. Details are still being worked out, but the event planners promise to make sure that the festivities will be safe for all participants.
