    Prairie City is a nice little town. I'm very familiar with the area because one of my best friends used to live here. I like to take my bike out and burn some calories on the trail outside town. There are buffalo roaming the trails, so you'll never know what you'll see. At the end of the trail is the Prairie Learning Center which is family friendly. Of course, after burning off all those calories, I have to stop by Goldie's for one of their famous pork tenderloin sandwiches and some ice cream. A perfect afternoon!

    Nature at Its Best
    I love taking a walk, run, or bike ride on the trail leading from Prairie City which is 4.5 miles to the Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge Learning Center. The view is breathtaking! Come enjoy nature at its best.

    I recently visited the library in Prairie City, and was completely proud to learn, the library has so much to offer it's citizens! Did you know you can take online classes for just about anything? And you can listen to audible books or read books online? The staff at the library are so friendly and helpful. I would say the library is the "Central Hub" for this community! Check it out!

    Prairie City is a small-town in Central Iowa with a bright future! This beautiful town will soon be a destination stop of the biking trail system throughout the Central Iowa region which will be the missing link connecting the trail from Saylorville Lake all the way to Red Rock Lake! Bonus is that the trail system running through Prairie City will also connect the current bike trail lanes from the Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge to this trail system. How great is that?

    Take a drive to this peaceful, growing community located directly between Des Moines and Pella on Highway 163, less than 20 minutes from the edge of the metro, and within 10 minutes of Interstate 80 access. Bring your bike, or your running/walking shoes and tour the city. Stop off for a cool treat, food, or refreshments. After enjoying the small town charm, continue your journey on a scenic walking, running, biking or driving tour through the tall grass prairie inside the Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge. You never know what you might see; a small turtle along the road, pheasants flying from the ditch as you pass by, or the bison herd grazing in the tall prairie grass.
