    Dundee
A "living war memorial" that was proposed on the old Dundee Golf Course was thought to be the first important step in the beautification of the Omaha of tomorrow. "Living memorials" were popular in city planning and beautification during the 1940s. Little children to whom war and sacrifice mean nothing could appreciate the beauty of a living, growing memorial with trees, shrubbery, and flowers. Memorial Park was to be a park of shrubs, trees, and flowers, not statues. The focal point would be on the knoll in the center where an open court structure would house the honor roll of Omaha's servicemen and women. The 65-acre shrine in the nature of a park with interlacing drives and lush with shrubbery and flowers were offered and accepted by the City Council to become a living memorial to Douglas County men and women in the armed services.

Brownell Talbot's campus is tucked away in the middle of Dundee. Brownell is it's very own little community. The small size of the classes have so many wonderful benefits. The school starts with early childhood and goes all the way through high school. As a Brownell parent I have been able to experience all four of my kids starting in preschool and flourishing on the same campus throughout the years. Brownell Talbot is very involved in the Dundee community.

This area of Omaha sits between Leavenworth on the south, Hamilton on the north, Happy Hollow Blvd on the west and 46th St to the east. Founded in 1880, it is home to zillionaire Warren Buffet, the "Oracle of Omaha", and filmmaker Alexander Payne. The homes were built to look distinctive, or as we say "have character", and many are of historic nature with Colonial, Georgian and Tudor Revival styles. The area is preserved by the Dundee-Memorial Park Association, so beautification and enhancement goes on year round. Memorial Park and Elmwood Park are two major parks in the neighborhood. Memorial Park offers an annual city-run free concert with top entertainment venues.

The "downtown" area boasts fantastic restaurants, numerous businesses, small shops, and entertainment. The area has an annual Dundee Day with dances, festivals, games and family fun! Right down the street is the University of Nebraska Omaha with educational opportunities for all ages. In addition, there are both public and private schools of all grade levels and all interest levels. A fun place to live, rich in history and now a modern day neighborhood. Just ask my daughter--she and her family have lived there since moving back to Omaha in 2002 and they wouldn't live anywhere else!
